Who we are

Local roots. Statewide purpose.

Open Trails brings North Carolinians together around a simple belief: safe closures and clear public accountability belong side by side.

We are park lovers asking practical questions and organizing around clear answers.

Open Trails grew from a local concern familiar to communities across North Carolina: treasured trails can remain closed long after the immediate emergency has passed, while the path forward stays difficult to see.

We respect the park staff doing demanding work with limited time and resources. Our role is to make public concern visible, advocate for a dependable communication standard, and help people participate constructively.

This effort is for hikers and runners, families and neighbors, conservation advocates, local businesses, and anyone who believes public lands deserve active public stewardship.

One effort, two scales

Hello Eno

Our local roots: a community focused on Eno River State Park and the trails its neighbors know firsthand.

Open Trails

Our statewide coalition: a shared voice for timely information, visible progress, and responsible paths to reopening.

Your place in it

Being counted matters. Members can also share local knowledge, contact public officials, write letters, or spread an update when the moment calls for it.

Firm about the goal. Fair about the work.

01

Listen locally

People closest to a park often understand its trails, history, and community impact best. Their experience helps identify where questions remain unanswered.

02

Ask constructively

We focus on specific, answerable questions about closure reasons, completed work, remaining obstacles, and reassessment.

03

Organize visibly

A statewide list of supporters demonstrates that these are not isolated concerns and gives decision-makers a public constituency to engage.

Shared places need shared attention.

We can appreciate the people caring for our parks while still asking institutions to communicate clearly and keep long closures moving toward resolution.
